Frequently Asked Questions

1. How much does a tutor cost?
$70 for 1 hour or $90 for 2 hours. Teachers accept cash at the end of each lesson or you can prepay for a lesson online via PayPal here

2. Can you come to my home to teach me?
It's best to have the lesson at a cafe in the city as all our teachers use public transport, so getting to your place is likely to be difficult.

A teacher may be able to visit your home if you don't mind paying an additional travel time fee. The cost is $60 per hour travel time including expenses. So, if you live on the North Shore, for example, your 2 hour lesson could cost a total of $210. Having a lesson at a cafe in the city works out cheaper.

3. Do you teach children?
We mainly teach adults. Teaching children requires a different methology. Our Hindi tutor teaches adults and children. Enquire here if you'd like your children to learn Hindi.

3.  The language I want isn't listed. Will you be offering it?
We hope to. We are adding new tutors all the time so please email us requesting the language you would like to learn and we'll do our best to find a private tutor for you.

4. Where are you located?
Adult Language School is in Sydney city, a short walk from Town Hall station. The address is room 807, level 8, 250 Pitt Street. Please note that this is just a classroom and meeting point. Bookings are only made via this website.

5. Do you sell gift vouchers?
Language lessons gift certificates are available. You can find out more at our gift certificate page.

6. I'd prefer a class full of students, rather than a teacher. Do you have anything like that?
We occasionally run short intensive courses in Mandarin, French and English. Contact us for more details.

7. What level are the private tutor lessons? I don't know anything about the language.
We focus on helping beginners get the basics of the language so that they can do things like ask where the toilet is, use public transport, say please and thank you and order food, for example. If you're at an advanced level you're welcome to hire our tutors to have conversations with you in the language of your choice.

8. Didn't you used to have a classroom on level 6?
We're looking for somewhere bigger and cheaper. The website will be updated as soon as we have new premises. In the meantime, lessons will be held in cafes.
