Languages we would currently like to have casual private tutors for:
1. Arabic
2. Tibetan
3. Korean (during weekdays)
4. Khmer
5. Polish
6. Farsi
7. Danish

We're looking for private teachers for any language. There isn't really a limit to what languages we would like to offer but we usually only need one teacher per language. So if you know of someone who can teach a language that we don't yet offer, please ask them to contact us.

Basic Requirements: 

1. Australian Business Number. A.B.N.  (We only hire contractors or freelancers as the hours vary day to day and some months there may not be any work at all! You would do this job as a hobby or to supplement your other jobs. We would work around your available hours. You must be able to issue us with an invoice) 

2. Evidence of experience teaching your language before 

3. Ability to teach basic pronunciation techniques 

4. Flexible times. We're looking for someone with the ability to work during the day during a weekday and at other times such as 6:00pm to 8:00pm weekdays and at various times Saturdays or Sundays. Having said that, if you're not available at the times students want, we can still add you to the website and contact you when your times and student's times agree!

5. Strong interest in teaching CONVERSATIONAL language using realia. Anyone can use a textbook. We want to see you teach without one! Sometimes students just want to pay to have a conversation in your language! You need to be a good talker, a good corrector and a good facilitator so, if it is a conversation lesson, make sure you've got 2 hours of conversation topics to discuss every lesson!

6. Ability to analyse your student and create your own lessons for them. Each student's problem should be individually targeted and exercises would be created by you specifically for that student. We would prefer you develop your own lesson plans but we can get enough material for your first few lessons if needed. You can also use the printer/copier to print out your exercises.

7. Active, energetic with a sense of fun. Some students might want to have a lesson in a pub, night club or in a cafe in the city. Be flexible. If you would prefer to teach them at a location near where you live (we do not recommend that you teach them at your home unless you have personal liability insurance) then we can list that on the website too.

Other conditions
1. Most lessons will be scheduled to take place at Adult Language School suite 601, level 6, 250 Pitt Street Sydney. If this is already in use by other tutors, it would be great if you know of a good cafe in Sydney city that you're comfortable in, where you can conduct private lessons with minimal distractions. While teaching from your home sounds like a good idea, if you haven't got Personal Liability Insurance, it's safer if you teach in a cafe or other place that has its own insurance. The priority location for lessons is for them to be conducted at Adult Language School suite 601, level 6, 250 Pitt Street Sydney first, other meeting rooms second and nearby cafes third. Cellinis or Yama in the QVB are good places for tutoring.

2. Payments are a set fee per hour based on hours taught. Some students may pay us in advance. We will advise you if this is the case and pay you accordingly. 

3. Please note: We cannot pay you if a student cancels. Payment is based on hours taught only. If student's cancel we'll advise you within minutes if possible. Students usually give 24 hours notice if cancelling or rescheduling but sometimes something last minute comes up and they can't make it. We can only apologise and hope they turn up for the next lesson.

4. Photopies and other materials are your responsibility. We do have a collection of standard exercises to get you started with your first lesson and we can assist you with other exercises and files, depending on what the student has requested from us, but once you have had a lesson with the student you will know better than us what that student needs and your experience will enable you to better target that individual student through developing your own exercises for them. If there is a textbook that you really need for the lesson you can advise us and we may be able to buy it and add it to the school collection for you to borrow and photocopy.
